Mice Control in London

Illustrations of a wood mouse and a house mouse. There are certain pests which, under the right conditions, are actually much loved pets.  Mice are one of these, but then again some people keep tarantulas as pets whereas a lot of people would be terrified to have one in their homes.  Whatever your feelings about mice however, when they are not domesticated they can be dangerous from their chewing of wires and damaging to your health by spreading disease.

Identifying a Mouse Infestation
The clearest sign that you have got a mouse infestation is, naturally, seeing a live mouse.  That is unlikely to be the first sign you see however, as mice are nocturnal and only usually venture out when it is dark.  Therefore you might see mouse droppings first, or come across chewed wires, furniture or cereal boxes.  You might also become aware of a strange smell (the mouse nest) or hear their scurrying feet.  These are all indications of a rat infestation as well however, so to properly identify it you are probably going to have to wait to see the creature itself.

The two most common kinds of mice in the UK are the House mouse and the Wood mouse.  The Wood mouse is the larger of these at between 8cm and 11cm, the House mouse being slightly smaller and with ears that don't stick out so much.  Rats are much bigger.  There's no need to wait until you have identified whether it is a mouse or a rat infestation though, if you call in pest control professionals from Pest Control London they will be able to tell the difference from the other signs, for example the size of the droppings.  They will then be able to implement the proper mouse treatment.

Mice Control
The two man options when it comes to mice control is whether to use poison or traps.  There are more humane traps in use now than the traditional ones, which would kill by breaking the back of the mouse with a spring loaded metal bar.  Now they can be given a much less painful death.  Alternatively there is mouse poison which could be used.  The key to both of these techniques is the bait, and yes, cheese is a good one, but biscuits and chocolate also work well.  These are both fast and effective techniques when applied properly by pest control professionals.

Once your mice control problem has been taken care of, you will want to ensure they will never come back.  One way of taking care of this is closing up any gaps by which they can gain entry to the house with.  It only takes a small hole, so it is better to cover up all the gaps you find.  When it comes to ventilation, you won't want to close it up of course, but you can get mouse mesh grills that will prevent mice from getting in.  In conjunction with this, you should ensure that your house is kept clean and tidy, as mice generally are not attracted to any place where there are no sources of food available.
